Dr. Mark Richards is a nationally recognized leader in the field of cosmetic surgery who has been selected by the Consumer’s Research Council of America every year since 2002 for inclusion in their Guide to America’s Top Surgeons. Patients travel across the United States and from around the globe to take advantage of his skills and expertise in cosmetic surgery.
In 2000, he received national acclaim for the extensive reparative cosmetic surgery he performed on Linda Tripp. In 2001, the innovative technique he developed to “lift” sagging arms with hidden armpit incisions was published as the lead article in the July/August 2001 issue of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. His well researched techniques which emphasize patient satisfaction and safety in high-volume liposuction procedures were the topic of his article published in the Fall 2003 issue of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. He was an invited lecturer at the national plastic surgery conference held at New York University Hospital Center in 2003. Dr. Richards lectured to more than 2000 European cosmetic surgeons at the annual International Masters Course in Paris in January of 2005, 2007, and 2009 on multiple topics including: “Salvaging the Unsatisfactory Facelift”, an area of special interest for him. In October of 2009, he was one of 3 US plastic surgeon experts referenced and quoted on this topic In the New York Times newspaper.
Dr Richards has been selected for years by Washingtonian Magazine as one of the Washington, DC. metropolitan area’s “best plastic surgeons”, and listed in Baltimore Magazine as “the doctor to go to”. Nationally, he has been recognized as one of the “Outstanding Young Men of America”, awarded to him both in 1996 and 1998. He was elected by his peers to serve as President of the National Capitol Society of Plastic Surgeons (the Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC metropolitan area Plastic Surgery Society) and as President of the Montgomery County Medical Society (a 1700 member physician professional society dedicated to improving patient and community healthcare). In addition to his busy plastic surgery practice of over 18 years, he has written on multiple topics, lectured extensively to both the medical and lay communities, and has been interviewed as an expert by numerous columnists and television journalists. He has been a repaet guest on many TV shows about plastic surgery.
Dr. Richards received his undergraduate degree from Yale University with honors, and his medical degree from the University of Maryland, School of Medicine. Dr. Richards went on to complete five years of residency in general surgery, two additional years of residency in plastic surgery and was certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Mark Richards continues to update his skills and knowledge through many hours of continuing medical education (CME) every year and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
